Van Deusen Captures
Three-Meter Diving Title

straight year

FAIRFAX, VA -- University of
Delaware senior Julie Van Deusen won her second
career conference diving title Wednesday night as she
captured three-meter event on the opening day of the
Colonial Athletic Association Swimming & Diving
Championships at George Mason University's Jim McKay
Natatorium.
Van Deusen, a senior from Bear, DE
(Glasgow HS/Hill School, Pa.), earned 458.25 points to
easily outdistance runner-up Kara Boate of Drexel (417.75)
and claim a CAA title for the second straight year.
Van Deusen captured the CAA one-meter
title and was second in the three-meter event last season on
the way to earning CAA Diver of the Year honors. She also
posted two top 10 finishes at the ECAC regionals and moved
on to the NCAA Championships at the University of Texas in
both events, becoming the first UD swimmer or diver to
compete at the NCAA championships in school history.
The women's three-meter competition was
the only event contested on the first night of the
championships Wednesday. The second day of the CAA
championships will get underway at 10 a.m. with
preliminaries Thursday morning followed by the finals at 6
p.m. The four-day meet will continue until Saturday evening.
Host George Mason took the first day team
lead with 73 points as five Patriot divers placed in the top
10 led by Ashley Craw in third place.
George Mason's Liz Replogle was fourth
with 392.75 points followed by teammates Mary Campioli in
fifth (386.80), Jamie Downing in sixth (383.05), and Liz
Gabriel in seventh (380.45). Drexel was in second place in
the team standings with 28 points led by Boate's second
place finish and an eighth place finish from Evamarie
Guerrieri (369.75).
Delaware was tied for third place with
William & Mary with 20 points. Van Deusen was the Hens'
lone competitor in the event.
