Delaware Swimming & Diving Invitational December 6-7, 2002 UD Women Claim Team Title Again; Stephens Sisters Star Complete Meet Results    Sandy Stephens NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware women and Lehigh University men each defended their team title at the fourth annual University of Delaware Swimming and Diving Invitational Saturday at Rawstrom Pool. The Blue Hens women won all but three events and finished with 1,171 points to outdistance runner-up Lehigh (1,127) and La Salle (753) in the annual three-team event. On the men's side, Lehigh won 11 of the 20 events to finish with 1,274 points, easily downing runner-up La Salle (934) and host Delaware (872). The meet was the final action for the Blue Hens heading into winter break. Both Delaware teams will return to action Jan. 11 at Colonial Athletic Association opponent Towson University. The Delaware women won 17 of the 20 events led by multiple wins from Sandy Stephens (seven wins), Sara Stephens (six wins), Jill Fitzgerald (six wins), Sarah Peffer (three wins), Kristen Avioli (two wins), and diver Julie Van Deusen (two wins). Sandy Stephens won the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay, 400 medley relay, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 200 individual medley, and 400 freestyle relay; Sara Stephens won the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay, 400 medley relay, 200 butterfly, 100 butterfly, and 400 freestyle relay; Fitzgerald won the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay, 400 medley relay, 50 freestyle, and 100 freestyle; Peffer won the 1,650 freestyle, 500 freestyle, and 400 individual medley; Avioli won the 200 medley relay and 100 backstroke, and Van Deusen captured both the one and three-meter diving events. Van Deusen broke her own school record in winning the one-meter dive with 279.95 points while Peffer set a new school record in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:35.10, breaking the mark of 4:36.49 by Meghan Petry in 2000-01. The Delaware men captured just one event with Rick Dressel winning the 100 butterfly in 52.73. Also for the Hens, Kevin Weisser was second in the 500 freestyle (4:48.05) and third in the 1,650 freestyle (17:07.41) and 400 freestyle relay, Tim Wasiewski was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.37) and 200 individual medley (2:01.61), and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.38), and Robert Frey was second in the 400 individual medley (4:18.32) and third in the 200 individual medley (2:02.45). The Lehigh men won 11 races led by Bing Padmasankha and Jake Fletcher. Padmasankha won four events, capturing the 400 medley relay, 800 freestyle relay, 100 freestyle, and 200 freestyle. Fletcher won three times in the 200 medley relay, 50 freestyle, and 400 freestyle relay. For the LaSalle men, Adam Barclay won both diving events and Frank Eaton captured the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, and 200 freestyle relay. AGATE: Women's Final Team Standings: 1.
