NEWARK, DE -- The University of
Delaware men won 14 of the 16 races while the UD women
captured 13 of the 16 races as the Blue Hen swimming and
diving teams swept Loyola Saturday in non-league action at
Rawstrom Pool.
The Delaware men (1-5) won their first
meet of the season with a 187-91 victory over the Greyhounds
(2-5) while the Blue Hen women improved to 5-2 this season
with a 185-105 win over the Greyhound women (3-4). The UD
men have now defeated Loyola 13 straight times while the
Delaware women are 11-0 all-time vs. the Greyhounds. Both
Blue Hen teams will return to action Jan. 29 when they
travel to Binghamton, NY for a tri-meet with host Binghamton
and Lafayette College.
On the women's side, Delaware's Jill
Fitzgerald (Archbishop Wood/Warminster, PA) was a triple
winner by capturing the 100 freestyle (54.82), 200 freestyle
(2:00.10), and 50 freestyle (25.49); Julie Van Deusen
(Hill School/Bear, DE) remained undefeated for the
season in diving by winning the one-meter (261.23) and
three-meter (206.15) events; Sarah Peffer
(Newark/Newark, DE) won both the 200 butterfly (2:10.15) and
500 freestyle (5:04.78); Krysta Wasiewski (Conestoga
Valley/Lancaster, PA) won the 100 backstroke (1:01.88) and
200 backstroke (2:14.48) events; and Sara Stephens
(St. Mark's/Wilmington, DE) won the 100 breaststroke
(1:10.70) and swam a leg of the winning 200 medley relay
team (1:51.86).
Also winning for the UD women were
Lindsay Mathers (Bowie/Bowie, MD) in the 200 breaststroke
(2:33.14) and Meghan Petry (Villa Walsh/New Providence,
NJ) in the 1,000 freestyle (10:40.76).
The Delaware men had eight different
athletes win individual events led by senior Tim Wasiewski
(Conestoga Valley/Lancaster, PA), who won the 100
breaststroke (1:02.0), 200 breaststroke (2:17.24), and 200
individual medley (2:02.60), and swam a leg of the winning
200 medley relay team.
Also for the Hens, Alex Skacel (Holy
Cross/Moorestown, NJ) won the 100 backstroke (56.13) and 200
backstroke (2:02.44) and swam a leg of the 200 medley relay;
Kevin Weisser (Franklin Regional/Murrysville, PA) won the
200 freestyle (1:47.42) and 500 freestyle (4:55.64); Jacob
Yohe (Dallastown/Jacobus, PA) won the 50 freestyle (22.64)
and was a member of the winning of the 200 medley relay and
200 freestyle relay (1:29.66) teams; Rick Dressel
(McKean/Wilmington, DE) captured the 100 butterfly (53.17)
and swam in both the 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley
relay; and Colin Gibson (Radnor/Villanova, PA) captured the
100 freestyle (49.72) and was a part of the 200 freestyle
relay. Also winning for the Blue Hens were Matt Aungst
(Aquinas Academy/Newark, DE) in the 200 butterfly and Nick
Grossman (Daniel/Clemson, SC) in the 1,000 freestyle
(10:08.73)
