October 26, 2003 Stephens and Avioli Lead the Way as Hens Improve to 2-0 NEWARK, DE -- Sara Stephens (St. Mark's/Wilmington, DE) and Kristen Avioli (Bishop Shanahan/West Chester, PA) each had a hand in three first place finishes as the University of Delaware women's swimming and diving team ran its record to 2-0 with a 130-112 win over Old Dominion Sunday afternoon at Rawstrom Natatorium. The Delaware men fell to 0-2 with a 136.5-101.5 setback to Old Dominion despite individual wins from freshman diver Steve Henn (Dix Hills/Dix Hills, NY), David Hardy (DeMatha/Ranier, MD), and Alex Skacel (Holy Cross/Moorestown, NJ). Stephens won the 200 individual medley (2:12.62) and 200 butterfly (2:09.14) and teamed with Avioli, Erica Pearson (Howard/Columbia, MD), and Jill Fitzgerald (Wood/Warminster, PA) to win the 400 medley relay in 4:03.52. Avioli also captured the 200 backstroke (2:11.61) and teamed with Meredith Law (Suffolk Academy/Chesapeake, VA), Kim Fields (Severna Park/Severna Park, MD), and Sara Reed (East/West Chester, PA) to win the 400 medley relay in 4:03.52. Fitzgerald also won the 100 freestyle (53.85) and was second in the 50 freestyle (25.02), Sarah Peffer (Newark/Newark, DE) was second in the 200 freestyle (1:57.31), 500 freestyle (5:08.83), and 200 breaststroke (2:29.89), and Fields was second in the 1,000 freestyle (10:41.10.). Old Dominion (0-2) freshman Lauren Timby won the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, and 1,000 freestyle to pace the Monarchs. Henn won the three-meter dive for the second straight meet with a total of 249.75 points and placed second in the one-meter event with a score of 198.75). Skacel won the 200 backstroke (2:02.05) while Hardy won the 200 breaststroke (2:21.57). The Hens also got a first place finish in the 400 freestyle behind the team of Brendan Spencer (Yorktown/Arlington, VA), Jeff Shields (Lawrence/Lawrenceville, NJ), Mike Rasch (Emmaus/Allentown, PA), and Kevin Kotowski (Salesianum/Wilmington, DE) in a time of 3:19.75. Shields was also second in the 200 freestyle (1:49.27) while Kotowski was third in the 100 freestyle (50.30) and 200 freestyle (1:50.66) and Spencer was third in the 200 individual medley (2:01.96) and in the 200 butterfly (2:06.08). Old Dominion improved to 1-1 behind two victories each from Pat Frish and Ryan Kletz. Both teams return to action Saturday when they host Georgetown at 1 p.m. AGATE:
