Delaware 153, James Madison 87 Towson 164, James Madison 76 January 11, 2004 Peffer Helps UDWomen Sweep Towson, JMU in CAA Tri-Meet
The Delaware women (7-1) downed James Madison 153-87 and Towson 139-103 to highlight the final home meet of the season. On the men's side, James Madison won six races to post the sweep over Delaware and Towson. The Blue Hen men (1-7) fell to James Madison by a score of 137-96 and by a score of 140-96 to Towson. Peffer captured the 1,000 freestyle (10:28.18), the 400 individual medley (4:34.29), and the 500 freestyle (5:06.08) to pace the Blue Hens. Also taking home individual titles were Jill Fitzgerald (Wood/Warminster, PA) in the 50 freestyle (24.83) and 100 freestyle (53.75), Sara Stephens (St. Mark's/Wilmington, DE) in the 200 butterfly (2:07.13) and 200 breaststroke (2:26.43), Sara Reed (East/West Chester, PA) in the 200 backstroke (2:09.60), Meredith Law (Nansemond/Chesapeake, VA) in the 200 freestyle (1:57.36), and the 400 medley relay team of Kristen Avioli (Bishop Shanahan/West Chester, PA), Lauren Ostroski (Methacton/Norristown, PA), Stephens, and Fitzgerald (4:00.46). Placing second for the Hens were Kim Fields (Severna Park/Severna Par, MD) in the 1,000 freestyle (10:46.89), Sarah Bergan (Bethesda Chevy Chase/Bethesda, MD) in the one-meter dive (189.90), and Law in the 500 freestyle (5:14.90). The James Madison women were led by Lisa Enders, who won the one-meter (220.0) and three-meter (213.15) diving events. Towson's lone win was in the 400 freestyle relay where the team of Alyson Hunt, Jennifer Irby, Jackelyn Cona, and Elizabeth Lebherz won in a time of 3:39.26. Freshman diver Dan O'Connell (St. Mark's/Newark, DE) led the Blue Hen men by winning both the one-meter and three-meter diving events, his first sweep of the events this season. He posted 182.5 points in the one-meter event and 185.20 points in the three-meter event. The Hens also got third place finishes from the 400 freestyle relay team (3:23.59) of Colin Gibson (Radnor/Villanova, PA), Michael Rasch (Emmaus/Allentown, PA), Joe Virion (Concord/Wilmington, DE), and Jeff Shields (Lawrence/Lawrenceville, NJ), Stephen Wolf (Middletown/Townsend, DE) in the one-meter dive (146.85), Brendan Spencer (Yorktown/Arlington, VA) in the 200 backstroke (2:01.19), and Virion in the 500 freestyle (4:55.93). The James Madison men were led by Geoff Meyer, who captured the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle events. Towson was paced by 2003 CAA Swimmer of the Year Aaron Krause, who won the 400 medley relay, the 400 individual medley, and the 400 freestyle relay.
