Delaware Women's Swimming Defeats Northeatsern and Old Dominion; Falls to William & Mary at ODU Quad Meet

NORFOLK, VA -- The University of Delaware women’s swimming team picked up two conference wins while the Blue Hen men lost twice at the Old Dominion quad meet held Friday and Saturday.

The Delaware women’s team (4-1, 3-1 CAA) defeated Colonial Athletic Association opponents Northeastern, 182-171, and Old Dominion, 226.50-124.50, but fell to William & Mary, 212.50-138.50. The Blue Hen men (1-3, 0-3 CAA) fell to Old Dominion, 229-117, and William & Mary, 208-133.

Alyson Oliver (right) led the Blue Hen women’s team in Saturday’s action by winning the 1-meter diving with 279.30 points and finishing third in the 3-meter diving with 236.55 points. The Delaware 400 freestyle relay team of Kendall Warren, Sarah Begley, Ellen Heinz, and Maryann Walker won its race in 3:37.63.

Emily Smathers placed second in the 200 backstroke in 2:10.23, while Heinz was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:12.19 and the 400 freestyle relay team of Erin Phillips, Stephanie House, Meredith Law, and Lauren Southard came in second in its event in 3:42.63. Shannon Burke finished fourth in the 1-meter diving with 201.75 points, while Walker was fourth in the 100 freestyle in 54.66 and Emily Watts placed fourth in the 200 backstroke in 2:10.98

The Delaware men’s 400 freestyle relay team of Andrew Zinn, Brendan Spencer, Adam Blomberg, and Levan Beridze won its event in 3:13.88, while Zinn was second in the 100 freestyle in 48.25. Matt Abbruzzese finished third in both the 1-meter diving with 203.80 points and the 3-meter diving with 221.25 points, while Beridze was third in the 100 freestyle in 48.34.

Garrett Arant finished fourth in the 200 backstroke in 2:00.23, while Blomberg was fourth in the 100 butterfly in 54.05 and Spencer placed fourth in the 200 individual medley in 2:04.05. The Blue Hen 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams also finished fourth in their races.

Both Delaware teams return to action on Saturday, November 12 when the Blue Hens host Drexel at 1 p.m. at Harry Rawstrom Pool.
