NEWARK, DE -- Adam Goldstein, a former captain for the University of Delaware swimming and diving team, has been added to the Blue Hen coaching staff as a graduate assistant coach, head coach John Hayman has announced.

Goldstein (at right) joins a staff that includes Hayman, assistant coach Rory Coleman, diving coach Peter Metrinko, and graduate assistants Meredith Law and Levan Beridze. Delaware will open the regular season Oct. 20 with a dual meet vs. Colonial Athletic Association rival George Mason.

Goldstein, a native of Highland Lakes, NJ (Vernon Township High School), is a 2005 University of Delaware graduate with a degree in environmental science with a minor in geography. He is currently working on his master’s degree in geography.

He assisted with the Blue Hen men’s and women’s teams in an unofficial role the last two years. He also is an assistant coach with Team Delaware, a youth swim team based in Newark.

While a member of the UD swimming team, Goldstein was a four-year letterwinner and served as a team co-captain as both a junior in 2003-04 and as a senior in 2004-05.

He earned the team’s Chuck Ganci Award for special contributions and was the squad’s Blue Hen Team Sportsmanship Award winner in 2003-04 and was the winner of the Thomas Baranello Award as the most improved swimmer as a sophomore in 2002-03. He placed eighth in the 800 freestyle relay at the 2003 CAA Championships and placed 16th in the 1,650 freestyle and 20th in the 200 backstroke at the 2005 CAA Championships.
