Maryann Walker Named CAA Female Swimmer of the Week for Second Time

RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware swimmers Andrew Zinn and Maryann Walker (at right) have been named the Colonial Athletic Association Male and Female Swimmers of the Week for the period ending Dec. 5.

Zinn, a junior from Wilmington, DE (McKean High School), and Walker, a sophomore from Ellicott City, MD (Mt. Hebron High School), were both honored for the second time this season and were recognized for their outstanding performances at the Loyola Invitational this past weekend.

Delaware swimmers and divers have now been honored as athletes of the week seven times this season. Zinn was also named Male Swimmer of the Week Oct. 25 while Walker was named Female Swimmer of the Week Nov. 14. Delaware diver Matt Abbruzzese and swimmer Garrett Arant have also been honored this season.

In addition to Zinn and Walker, Old Dominion sophomore Peter Stickl was named CAA Male Diver of the Week and Old Dominion sophomore Jasmine Moore was named CAA Female Diver of the Week.

In helping Delaware to a sweep over host Loyola, Marist, and Niagara, Walker captured first place finishes in the 800 freestyle relay (7:51.21), 400 medley relay (3:59.16), 400 freestyle relay (3:37.92), 200 freestyle (1:55.34), and 200 freestyle relay (1:39.38). Walker also notched a second place in the 200 backstroke (2:10.28) and third in the 50 freestyle (25.02).

Zinn notched a victory at the Loyola Invitational over the weekend in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.22. He also managed place second place in the 400 medley relay (3:35.27), third in the 200 medley relay (1:39.13), third in the 400 freestyle relay (3:13.86), and fourth in the 100 freestyle (47.96) and the 800 freestyle relay (7:13.66).
