RICHMOND, VA -- Six University of Delaware swimmers garnered All-Colonial Athletic Association accolades while two relay teams were also honored by the league office based upon their performances at the CAA Championship meet last month.
Senior standout Andrew Zinn led the honorees, earning mention for his efforts in five separate events. Grady Carter was also honored four times, while Emily Smathers, Kellie Pastore, Cortney Barry, and Maryann Walker (at right) were all celebrated on the women's side. The men's 200- and 400-freestyle relay squads received recognition as well.
For the women, Smathers and Pastore anchored the Hens as both swimmers garnered second-place finishes in leading Delaware to a sixth-place showing overall. The former finished second in the 200-backstroke, while the latter was the runner-up in the 200-breaststroke.
Barry also had an exceptional showing at the meet, notching an NCAA 'B' standard during her third-place finish in the 1,650-free. Walker was the final honoree for Delaware after she came in right behind Smathers in third place during the 200-backstroke.
Zinn, who led the men to a program-best third-place finish at the title meet, was named to the All-CAA list after placing in the top-three at the conference championship in the 50-, 100-, and 200-yard freestyles as well as on both relay teams. In each event, he set a new school record while he also captured the program's first individual CAA title in the 100-freestyle.
Carter earned the honor after teaming with Zinn on both relay squads before also placing third during both the 50- and 100-freestyle events.
Zinn and Carter were joined by John Ohlhaver during both relays, while Zach Schiavo rounded out the 200-yard squad before Adam Blomberg served as the fourth member of the 400-yard team.
