  Delaware Swimmers Capture 28 First Place Finishes, Post Dominating Sweep Over Georgetown

Athlete photoNEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware won 28 events with six swimmers posting multiple individual victories as the Blue Hens topped the Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday afternoon at the Rawstrom Natatorium.

The women, led by Cortney Barry and Maryann Walker (at right), notched a 197-103 victory over Georgetown (0-4), while the men beat the Hoyas (0-3), 207-91, behind the strong performances of Matt Abbruzzese, Adam Blomberg, and Grady Carter.

For the men, it was the largest margin of victory in over nine years.

Carter took home first place finishes in the 50 Freestyle (21.23) and the 200 IM (1:59.50). He also teamed with John Ohlhaver, Chung Shin, and Andrew Zinn to win the 200 Medley Relay in a time of 1:37.07. Ohlhaver, Carter, Zinn, and Zack Schiavo also were victorious in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:26.12).

Matt Abbruzzese had a great day diving, winning both the 1-meter (270.60) and 3-meter (267.08) events.

The Blue Hens (2-0) also dominated the 100-yard events, with Dominic Pavlik winning the breaststroke (1:02.81), John Ohlhaver capturing the backstroke (53.07), and Adam Blomberg taking home the freestyle (48.39) and butterfly (53.35).

After winning two events last week, Andrew Zinn added one more individual win against the Hoyas, taking the 200 freestyle in 1:46.38.

The Hens were also helped by Garrett Arant, who won the 1000 Freestyle (10:28.22), Troy Sattgast, who won victorious in the 200 Butterfly (2:00.46), Daniel Abbott, who was the champion in the 200 Breaststroke (2:17.26), and Matt Wehrman, who took home the 500 Freestyle (4:50.39)

For the Delaware women (2-0), Barry won both the 1,000 Freestyle (10:28.22) and the 500 Free (5:08.56) events, while Maryann Walker added victories in the 100 Backstroke (59.81), 100 Freestyle (53.38), and 200 IM (2:11.85).

Walker also teamed with Emily Watts, Meghan Barber, and Sarah Begley to capture the 200 Medley Relay in a time of 1:51.12. The 200 Freestyle relay squad, anchored by Begley, Catherine Gallagher, Erinne Butler, and Rachel Greene, also won, finishing in 1:40.10

Barber added a win in the 100 Breaststroke (1:09.24), while Greene won the 50 Freestyle (25.05). Watts also captured the 200 Backstroke crown in a time of 2:11.04, and Michelle Stevens won the 200 Breaststroke, finishing in 2:13.19.

The Hens' Kailey Pelton also won the 200 Butterfly (2:10.12), while Cecily Connell finished first in the 500 Freestyle (5:21.12). Shannon Burke was the lone winner in a diving event, capturing the 3-meter dive (233.65).

Both Delaware swim teams will return to action on November 2-3 when they travel to Boston to take on Northeastern and Old Dominion at 1 p.m.
