NEWARK, Del. –The University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming teams have added five standout student-athletes to the 2010-11 recruiting class, head coach John Hayman announced.

Victoria Gillespie, Victoria Solt, and Kaitlin Wolla will all join the women’s team, while Ricky Agresta and Matthew Marquez will swim for the men beginning next season.

Gillespie has been a perennial standout at Nazareth Academy in Philadelphia. During each of her first three seasons, she captured the conference and district championship with record-setting times in the 100-butterfly. She also placed second in the event at the state meet during each of the past two seasons after finishing third as a freshman.

A conference champion in the 50-freestyle, 200-individual medley, and 100-freestyle as well, she also competed in the 100-fly during the senior nationals in 2008. Last April, she placed sixth in the 100-fly at the sectionals as well.

Solt, a senior at Palmerton High School in Palmerton, Pa., has been an exceptional competitor in both the 200- and 500-freestyle events. Last season, she captured a silver medal in both disciplines during the district meet and finished third in the 200 at the state meet. She also set a new district record in the 500-free as a sophomore and was a medalist in both events as a freshman while also helping lead the 200-freestyle relay squad to a championship.

A member of the Parkland Aquatic Club, she qualified for the NCSA Junior Nationals in 2009. She also placed in the top-24 during the super-sectionals in both the 200-individual medley and 400-freestyle.

Wolla has been a standout member of the Yorktown High School swim team over the past three seasons. During each year with the squad, she has helped lead the team to the National District Championship. On an individual level, she captured the 500-freestyle title as a freshman and won the 100-butterfly during each of the last two seasons.

Last year, she also finished third in the 100-fly and met the NISCA All-American consideration time during the Northern Regional meet. She also placed sixth at the state meet in the same event and served as a member of the AAA State Championship team as a freshman.

Agresta has been an All-State performer during his three seasons at Archmere Academy in Wilmington. As a freshman, he garnered second-team All-State honors before earning first-team nods during each of the last two seasons. An exceptional competitor in the sprint freestyles, he placed second in the state meet in the 50-free and third in the 100.

A member of the Brandywine YMCA, he posted a pair of top-10 times during the Middle Atlantic Swimming meet in the 50- and 100-freestyles. During the YMCA nationals, he also served on the 200-freestyle relay squad that finished eighth at the competition.

Marquez has earned three letters as a standout member of the Loyola Blakefield swim team in Towson, Maryland. A co-captain on the squad this season, he was a finalist in the 200- and 500-freestyles during the National Catholic and Eastern Swimming Championships. He also competed in the finals of both events during the Maryland State Championship meet during the past two seasons.

A member of the Loyola Blakefield Aquatics club team and a two-time letterwinner for his school’s water polo team, he placed 15th in the 2008 USA Swimming Open Water National 5K in Ft. Myers, Florida. He also placed eighth during the 2009 Long Course Sectional Swimming Championship in Buffalo, N.Y.
