Blue Hen Sweep Explorers; Kamen Still Unbeaten


NEWARK, DE – The University of Delaware men’s and women’s tennis teams continued their dominance over LaSalle Friday, winning every match in straight sets on the way to two shutout victories.

The Delaware men (5-7) won their second straight match with a 7-0 victory over LaSalle at the Carpenter Sports Building Courts while the Delaware women (8-1) also won their second straight with a 9-0 win over the Explorers at the Delaware Field House Courts.

The Blue Hen men are now 22-2 all-time vs. LaSalle with 20 straight wins since 1953 while the Blue Hen women remained unbeaten in nine meetings with the Explorers.

Picking up singles wins for the UD men were Chris Johnson, Sean Kelly, Lee Kennedy, David Mouber, and Myron Schwarcz. Kennedy (8-4) and Mouber each won their matches 6-0, 6-0 while Delaware’s No. 6 player, Jesse Leopold, won by default. The UD doubles teams of Johnson and Kelly, Mouber and Kennedy, and Leopold and Pat Seitz also were victorious.

In the women’s match, Kristin Wasniewski, Karen Greenstein, Erin Kamen, Jessica Wilkes, and Tracey Guerin all won their singles match by 6-0, 6-0 scores while No. 1 player Elly Giese won 6-3, 6-1. Kamen improved to 9-0 on the season in singles while Wasniewski and Wilkes improved to 8-1.

Delaware’s doubles teams of Giese and Wasniewski, Greenstein and Martine Street, and Wilkes and Guerin were all winners.
