March 28, 2000 Kamen Moves Up to No. 2 on UD Win List
DATE: March 28, 2000 ST. LEO, FLA. – The University of Delaware men’s and women’s tennis teams opened their annual spring trip to Florida with a non-league sweep over Division II St. Leo College Tuesday afternoon. The Blue Hen men (7-7) won their fourth straight match with a 6-3 win while the Delaware improved to 9-1 with an 8-1 victory over St. Leo. The Delaware men have now defeated St. Leo eight straight times. Both Delaware teams will take on Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach today (Wednesday). In the men’s match, Sean Kelly, Lee Kennedy, David Mouber, Jesse Leopold, and Pat Seitz all won singles matches while the the Blue Hens’ doubles teams of Chris Johnson and Kelly were winners at the No. 1 spot. Kennedy now leads the team with a record of 10-4 in singles play. In the women’s match, Delaware swept the six singles matches behind wins from Elly Giese at No. 1, Kristin Wasniewski at No. 3, Karen Greenstein at No. 3, Erin Kamen at No. 4, and Jessica Wilkes at No. 5. The Hens won by default at both No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles. Tracy Guerin and Martine Street also won at doubles for the Hens, downing Shelby Jordan and Kathleen Houtsma 9-7 at the No. 2 spot. Wasniewski and Wilkes both improved to 9-1 in singles for the season while Kamen improved to a perfect 10-0 on the season at singles for the Blue Hens and increased her career singles record to 68-9, tying Rebecca Fearins (68-14 in 1993-98) for second place on the all-time Delaware list.
