Guerin Picks Up Two Wins for Blue Hens


BALTIMORE, MD – The University of Maryland Baltimore County swept the University of Delaware men’s and women’s tennis teams in non-league action Wednesday afternoon.

The Retriever men defeated Delaware 7-0, dropping the Blue Hens to 10-10 on the season.

The Delaware women (9-4), playing their first match since March 31, dropped their third straight match with a 6-3 setback. UMBC defeated the Blue Hen women for the first time ever in 15 all-time meetings.

 The Delaware men could manage just one victory the entire day as the Retrievers swept the six singles matches, all in straight sets. The Hens got their lone win at No. 2 doubles where the team of freshman Lee Kennedy and sophomore David Mouber posted an 8-4 victory over Nick Misra and Erik Nudo.

The Blue Hen women won three matches on the day as Elly Giese downed Nicole Russo 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 at the No. 1 spot, Tracy Guerin (Midland Park/Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ) upended Karina Molsing 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 at the No. 6 spot, and Guerin and Erin Kamen combined for an 8-6 victory over Karen Prangley and Carrie Koncilja at No. 3 doubles.

With the victory, Guerin improved her career doubles record to 50-18 to rank fourth all-time at Delaware. Delaware is now 11-0 at No. 3 doubles this season.
