Delaware Women's Tennis Falls to American, 5-4

 

NEWARK, DE -- American University edged the University of Delaware 5-4 in a non-league women's tennis match Saturday afternoon at the Carpenter Sports Building Courts.

American (7-5) won its fifth straight match as the Eagles won the the first three singles matches and captured two of the three doubles meetings. Delaware, playing its final match before a four- match swing through Florida next week, fell to 8-5.

Picking up single victories for the Blue Hens were Erin Kamen (12-1) at No. 3, Elly Giese (National Cathedral/Washington, DC) at No. 4, and Martine Street (6-2) at No. 6. Giese improved to 12-1 with her sixth straight victory.

Delaware's lone doubles winner was the No. 3 team of Kamen and Street (8-3) who defeated Heather Skiles and Catherine Brosche 8-2.

The Hens return to action March 29 at Eckerd College.
