NEWARK, DE - The University of Delaware won five of the six singles matches in straight sets on the way to a 9-0 shutout of Hofstra in an America East women’s tennis match Friday indoors at the Delaware Field House.

The Blue Hens, who play at Drexel Saturday, improved to 13-8 (6-0 America East) with their third straight win while the Flying Dutchwomen fell to 4-10, 1-3. The match was moved indoors due to rain.

 Posting singles victories for the Blue Hens were Kristin Wasniewski at No. 1, Karen Greenstein at No. 2, Erin Kamen at No. 3, Tracy Guerin at No. 4, Elly Giese at No. 5, and Martine Street at No. 6.

All but Wasniewski defeated their opponents in straight sets.Giese, who set the UD single season freshman record for singles wins in her previous match, downed Hofstra’s Jackie Fitzharris 6-0, 6-0 to improve to 20-1 on the season and up her win streak to 14 matches. Kamen improved to 17-4 on the season.

In doubles, the teams of Wasniewski and Giese at No. 1, Kamen and Guerin at No. 2, and Greenstein and Rachel Dencker at No. 3 all won their matches.
