SWARTHMORE, PA -- Seven of eight Blue Hens went undefeated in singles play while three of four UD doubles teams also went undefeated as the University of Delaware women’s tennis team opened its 2005 fall season this weekend at the Swarthmore Invitational.

Freshman Amanda Campbell (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) went 4-0 while sophomore Susan Pollack (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing Area) was 3-0 in Flight A singles action for the Blue Hens, who competed against Swarthmore and Johns Hopkins at the invitational. Juniors Liz Perlow (Sarasota, FL/Lawrence-KY) and Sari Shuster (Pleasantville, NY/Byram Hills) each went 4-0 in Flight B singles, while sophomore Brittany Barsky (Rockville, MD/Rockville) was also 4-0 and sophomore Julie Schiller (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) was 1-3 in Flight C singles.

Freshmen Abbie Pyeritz (Radnor, PA/Episcopal Academy) and Katie Iannelli (Wilmington, DE/Heritage Academy-SC) were each 4-0 in Flight D singles for Delaware. Pollack and Campbell teamed to go 4-0 in Flight A doubles, while Shuster and sophomore Alexa Dragonette (Wyomissing, PA/Wilson) went 3-1. Perlow and Barsky went 4-0 in Flight B doubles, while Schiller and Iannelli also won all four of their matches.

There were no finals played in singles or doubles action, as each flight consisted only of round robin play.

The Blue Hens return to action on September 20 with a 2:30 p.m. match at Saint Joseph’s.
