Giese Wins at No. 1 Singles for Blue Hens

 

BALTIMORE, MD - Host Loyola College won six of the seven singles matches to post a 7-2 non-league women's tennis victory over the University of Delaware Thursday afternoon.

Loyola won five of the six singles matches in straight sets and two of three doubles matchups to improve to 8-1 on the season. Delaware dropped its fourth straight match to fall to 3-4.

The Blue Hens will travel to Wilmington, NC this weekend to take on Colonial Athletic Association rivals UNC Wilmington and James Madison.

Delaware picked up its only two victories at No. 1 singles and at No. 2 doubles.

In No. 1 singles, senior Elly Giese posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory over the Greyhounds' Nancy Turnblacer to improve to 6-5 on the season. At No. 4 singles, Delaware Christine Knox had a five-match win streak snapped with a 7-5, 6-4 setback to Margot Wallace.

At No. 2 doubles, Delaware's team of Anisha Talati and Beth Principe posted an 8-6 win over Kaitlin Russo and Wallace.
