Wilkes Continues Win Streaks as Hens Win Seventh Straight CAA Match

ELKTON, MD -- The University of Delaware women's tennis team cruised to its third straight victory and remained undefeated against Colonial Athletic Association opponents this season with a 6-1 victory over Hofstra Friday afternoon at the Elkton Indoor Tennis Court Complex.

The site of the match was switched from the Delaware Field House outdoor courts to the indoor courts in Elkton, just 15 minutes away from the UD campus, due to inclement weather.

Delaware captured five of the six singles matches, all in straight sets, and won two of three doubles matches to win that point and improve to 7-8, 4-0 CAA. Delaware has now defeated Hofstra (0-9, 0-2 CAA) in all nine meetings all-time and the Hens have posted seven straight regular season CAA victories since last season.

The Hens will face their final CAA foe of the regular season Saturday when they host James Madison at 3 p.m.

Posting victories for the Blue Hens were Jessica Wilkes at No. 1, Jen Lamberton at No. 3, Beth Principe at No. 4, Stefanie Riddle at No. 5, and Julia Shapiro at No. 6. Hofstra picked up its only win at No. 2 singles where Mihaela Stefan downed Delaware's Christine Knox 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, Delaware got victories from the No. 1 team of Wilkes and Principe and from the No. 3 team of Katie Miller and Katie Heath.

Wilkes (Nazareth/Bethlehem, PA) continued two winning streaks as she won her seventh straight singles match and third straight doubles match.

She is now 14-5 this year in singles and her career record of 49-29 leaves her just one win shy of becoming just the sixth player in UD history to reach the 50-win mark. She has teamed with Principe for a 4-6 mark at No. 1 singles this season.
