Blue Hens Close Out Fall With Shutout

PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware women's tennis squad closed out the 2003 fall season with an easy 5-0 non-league victory over host Saint Joseph's Thursday afternoon.

The Blue Hens, who closed out the fall season with a 3-2 dual record, won all seven matches that were completed. Two of the singles matches were not finished due to darkness. Delaware will resume its championship season in March.

Winning singles matches for the Blue Hens were Sari Shuster at No. 1, Marissa Singer at No. 2, Julia Shapiro at No. 4, and Stefanie Riddle at No. 6. Shuster (6-5) and Riddle (6-2) each won their team-high sixth singles match of the season.

Delaware earned the doubles point by sweeping the three matches. Shuster and Singer won at the No. 1 spot, Principe and Katie Miller won at No. 2, and Shapiro and Riddle were winners at the No. 3 spot.
