Blue Hens Sweep Singles To Open Annual Spring Trip

 

ST. LEO, FL -- The University of Delaware women's tennis team started its annual spring trip to Florida on a winning note as the Blue Hens swept all six singles matches on the way to a 6-1 win over host St. Leo Tuesday afternoon.

Delaware, which will continue play Wednesday at Webber College and follow with a Thursday match at Embry-Riddle, won its second straight match to improve to 4-6 on the season.

The Hens have now defeated the NCAA Division II Lions in all four meetings between the two schools.

Posting victories for the Blue Hens in singles were Jessica Wilkes at No. 1, Christine Knox at No. 2, Jen Lamberton at No. 3, Beth Principe at No. 4, Stefanie Riddle at No. 5, and Katie Heath at No. 6. Wilkes now leads the team in singles wins with a record of 9-5 at the top spot this season.

St. Leo captured the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles spots, but Delaware came back at No. 3 doubles where Heath and Katie Miller posted an 8-0 victory.
