Blue Hens Win Five Singles Matches in Straight Sets for Shutout 

NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware women's tennis team swept five singles matches in straight sets on the way to its first dual match win of the season with a 7-0 victory over West Chester Tuesday at the Delaware Field House Courts.

Delaware (1-1), which was playing its home opener and its only scheduled home match of the fall season, bounced back from a 6-1 loss at Bucknell Saturday. The Hens have now defeated the Rams in six straight meetings.

Sophomore transfer Marissa Singer (Bayonne/Bayonne, NJ/U. of Tampa) won at No. 1 singles, freshman Liz Perlow (Lawrence/Island Park, NY) downed Jenna Hilton at No. 2, freshman Sari Shuster (Byram Hills/Pleasantville, NY) won at the No. 3 spot, freshman Jamie deGraffenreid (Saddlebrook Prep/Millersville, PA) won at No. 4, and sophomore Stephanie Riddle (Seaford/Seaford, DE) was a winner at the No. 5 spot. Senior Beth Principe (Watchung Hills/Warren, NJ) got the win at the No. 6 singles position by default.

The Hens had an equally easy time in doubles play as the teams of Perlow and Shuster at No. 1 and Singer and Principe at No. 2 were victorious. Delaware's No. 3 doubles team of Jen Lamberton (Scituate/North Scituate, RI) and DeGraffenreid won by default.

Delaware will return to action Oct. 2 when it travels to Villanova.
