Blue Hens Continue Dominance Over Drexel with Win in Regular Season Finale

NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware men's and women's tennis teams closed out the regular season in dominating fashion Sunday afternoon as the Blue Hens posted 7-0 shutouts over Drexel at the Delaware Field House Tennis Courts.

The Delaware men improved to 11-10 overall and 3-2 in Colonial Athletic Association with their second straight win while the Blue Hen women won their second straight match and fourth in the last five outings to improve to 9-9 (4-2 CAA). The Delaware men avenged a loss to Drexel last season that snapped the Hens' 41 match win streak over the Dragons while the UD women downed Drexel for the 12th straight time and for the 20th time in 22 all-time meetings.

Both Delaware teams will compete at the CAA Championships this weekend at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA. Tournament pairings will be announced Tuesday. The individual team champions earn automatic berths into the NCAA Regionals.

The Delaware men won all six singles matches in straight sets, winning 73 of the 92 games, and swept the three doubles matches. Delaware got singles wins from John Tully at No. 1, Sanjay Khindri at No. 2, Adam Liebman at No. 3, Josh Ditman at No. 4, Ari Zweig at No. 5, and Philip Wayne at No. 6. Earning doubles wins were the teams of Tully and Khindri, Ditman and Zweig, and Wayne and Jon Edwards.

Tully improved to a team-leading 17-8 on the season in singles, jus four wins shy of the school record for wins in a season. Khindri improved to 13-12 on the season and earned his 40th career victory while Wayne won his fourth straight match to improve to 8-4. Khindri and Tully are now 10-9 in singles play.

On the women's side, Delaware also swept the six singles matches in straight sets, winning 72 of 84 games. Sari Shuster won at No. 1, Liz Perlow at No. 3, Marissa Singer at No. 3, Jamie deGraffenreid at No. 4, Beth Principe at No. 5, and Stefanie Riddle at No. 6. Singer won her fourth straight match and Riddle improved to a team-leading 14-7. Earning doubles wins were the teams of Shuster and deGraffenreid, Perlow and Singer, and Principe and Julia Shapiro.
