Shuster, Perlow Win for Hens at First Two Singles

BALTIMORE -- The University of Delaware captured each of the first two singles matches, but host Loyola won the other four singles matches and swept the three doubles competitions for a 5-2 victory over the Blue Hens Saturday afternoon.

Delaware's Sari Shuster posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Loyola's Carolyn Pilkington at the No. 1 singles spot and the Hens' No. 2 player Liz Perlow was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Kaitlin Russo to highlight the day for the Hens, who lost their third straight match to fall to 3-5 on the season.

Shuster won her third straight match to improve to 8-5 on the season while Perlow upped her singles record to 4-7.

Delaware's Jamie deGraffenreid lost 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot, Julia Shapiro dropped a 6-1, 6-1 verdict at No. 4 singles, Beth Principe fell 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 at the No. 5 spot, and Stef Riddle dropped a 6-1, 7-5 decision at No. 6 singles.

Loyola won all three doubles matches to win the point but the Hens' No. 1 team of Shuster and deGraffenreid was edged by Pilkington and Russo by a 9-7 score.

Delaware will be off for nine days before returning to action March 22 when the Hens travel to Webber (FL) College for the first of three matches in Florida as part of their annual Spring Break trip.
