Shuster, Perlow Win
for Hens at First Two Singles
BALTIMORE -- The University of
Delaware captured each of the first two singles matches, but
host Loyola won the other four singles matches and swept the
three doubles competitions for a 5-2 victory over the Blue
Hens Saturday afternoon.
Delaware's Sari Shuster posted a
6-2, 6-4 win over Loyola's Carolyn Pilkington at the No. 1
singles spot and the Hens' No. 2 player Liz Perlow
was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Kaitlin Russo to highlight the
day for the Hens, who lost their third straight match to
fall to 3-5 on the season.
Shuster won her third straight match to
improve to 8-5 on the season while Perlow upped her singles
record to 4-7.
Delaware's Jamie deGraffenreid
lost 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot, Julia Shapiro
dropped a 6-1, 6-1 verdict at No. 4 singles, Beth
Principe fell 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 at the No. 5 spot, and
Stef Riddle dropped a 6-1, 7-5 decision at No. 6
singles.
Loyola won all three doubles matches to
win the point but the Hens' No. 1 team of Shuster and
deGraffenreid was edged by Pilkington and Russo by a 9-7
score.
Delaware will be off for nine days before
returning to action March 22 when the Hens travel to Webber
(FL) College for the first of three matches in Florida as
part of their annual Spring Break trip.
