Men's and Women's Tennis Teams Sweep La
Salle, 7-0
NEWARK,
DE (October 9, 2004) -- The University of
Delaware men's and women's tennis teams
swept La Salle by identical 7-0 scores on
Saturday at the Delaware Field House
Tennis Courts to claim their 25th straight
victory for the men and 14th straight win
for the women over the Explorers.
The
Delaware women are now 7-0 in dual
competition this season and off to their
best start since the 1997 team started
17-0 while the UD men improve to
2-0.
Earning
victories for the Delaware women were
Susan Pollack (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing
Area) at No. 1 singles, Liz Perlow
(Sarasota, FL/Lawrence) at No. 2 singles,
Sari Shuster (Pleasantville, NY/Byram
Hills) at No. 3 singles, and Jamie
DeGraffenreid (Millersville,
MD/Saddlebrook Prep) at No. 4 singles.
Brittany Barsky (Rockville, MD/Rockville)
and Marissa Singer (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne)
both recorded victories by default at No.
5 and No. 6 singles
respectively.
With
the victories, Pollack and Perlow are 11-0
this season with their 11 straight
victories the longest by a UD player since
Danielle Wall won 13 straight in the
2000-2001 season
In
doubles action, Pollack and Sari Shuster
were victorious at No. 1 along with Barsky
and Miller at No. 2 and DeGraffenreid and
Schiller at No. 3.
Earning
victories for the men were John Tully
(Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) at
No. 1 singles, Adam Liebman (Westport,
CT/Staples) at No. 2 singles, Josh Ditman
(Owings Mills, MD/Pikesville) at No. 3
singles, Jesse Carl (Northbrook,
IL/Glenbrook North) at No. 4 singles,
Robert Wirth (Hockessin, DE/Saddlebrook
Academy) at No. 5 singles, and Jason
Hanschmann (Palantine, IL) at No. 6
singles.
With
the win, Tully now moves into seventh
place all-time at Delaware in wins with an
overall record of 47-35.
In
doubles action, Tully and Wirth posted a
victory at No. 1 along with Carl and
Hanschmann at No. 2 and Sammy Carl and
Jonathon Schwartz at No. 3.
