Women Sweep Drexel 7-0; Down Dragons for
13th Straight Time

PHILADELPHIA
-- The University of Delaware men's and
women's tennis teams both swept host
Drexel University by 7-0 scores in
Colonial Athletic Association action on
Wednesday afternoon.
The Blue
Hen women snapped a two-match losing
streak with the win and improved to 12-4
while the men broke Drexel's four-match
win streak and improved to 9-3. The Dragon
women fell to 2-12 while the men fell to
5-7.
The
Delaware women downed Drexel for the 13th
straight time while the UD men downed the
Dragons for the 44th time in the last 45
meetings.
In men's
singles action, John Tully won career
match 55 and is now two wins away from
reaching the Delaware record for career
wins set by Jon Zolin. Tully defeated
Walid El Jebbari 6-2, 7-6 and has a record
of 13-9 on the season.
Also
recording wins in men's singles for
Delaware were Adam Liebman, who won 6-2,
7-6 over Ilya Tunjic at the No. 2 spot,
Josh Ditman won 6-3, 6-0 over Keith
Juaniza at the No. 3 spot, Jesse Carl was
a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 winner over Kellen Thomas
at No. 4, Robert Wirth downed Pasquale
Cardone 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5, and Jason
Hanschman triumphed over Ayushya Wadhwan
by a 6-4, 6-1 score.
In men's
doubles action, the No. 1 duo of Tully and
Wirth defeated Ell Jebbari and Tunjic 8-5
while Jesse Carl and Hanschman defeated
Cardone and Wadhawn 8-3 at the No. 2 spot
and Sammy Carl and Phillip Wayne teamed up
for an 8-2 win at the No. 3 spot over
Thomas and Michael Keefe. Carl and Wayne
improved to 12-1 this season and extended
their win streak to 10 matches.
In women's
singles Susan Pollack defeated Hana
Stecova 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 slot while
Liz Perlow downed Kristy Pron 6-1, 6-1 at
No. 2. Sari Shuster (right) defeated
Jaimee Wylie 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3, Alexa
Dragonette defeated Jillian Toussaint 6-0,
6-0 at No. 4, Katie Miller defeated
Michelle Septak 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5, and
Brittany Barsky rounded out the women's
singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jenn
Rimmey.
In women's
doubles action, Pollack and Dragonette
defeated Stecova and Pron 8-0 at the No. 1
spot, Miller and Barsky combined to defeat
Rimmey and Septak 8-2 at No. 2, and Perlow
and Shuster defeated Wylie and Doriss 8-1
at the No. 3 slot.
Both
Delaware teams will be in action on
Friday, April 8 when they take on UNC
Wilmington in Fairfax, VA.
