Pollack, Shuster, Dragonette Each Win Twice to Lead Delaware Over Georgetown 6-1

DATE: April 12, 2005

NEWARK, DE -- Senior John Tully moved to within one of the all-time school singles win record to lead the Blue Hen men to a 4-3 victory and the Delaware women captured all but one singles match to post a 6-1 triumph as the UD tennis teams swept Georgetown Tuesday at the Delaware Field House Tennis Courts.

The Delaware men improved to 10-5 as they snapped a two-match losing streak while the Blue Hen women won their second straight and third match in the last four outings.

Tully posted a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Georgetown's Erik Bildman at the No. 1 spot to improve to 14-11 this season and raise his career record to 56-45, just one win shy of the UD record of 57 by Jon Zolin in 1971-75. Tully also teamed with Robert Wirth to post an 8-4 win over Bildman and Eric Conrad at the No. 1 doubles position.

Also posting wins for the Hens were Jonathan Schwartz at No. 5 singles, Philip Wayne at No. 6 singles, and the team of Jesse Carl and Jason Hanschman at No. 2 doubles. Carl and Hanschman won their fourth straight match to improve to 14-4 on the season. Delaware's No. 3 doubles team of Wayne and Sammy Carl (14-2) was defeated 8-6 by Ted Tywang and Etienne Paris to snap a 12-match win streak.

On the women's side, Delaware won five of the six singles match, including four in straight sets, and captured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches.

Delaware freshman Susan Pollack posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over Stephanie Cohen at No. 1 singles to improve to 19-7 on the season, giving her the second highest single season win total ever by a Blue Hen freshman. Elly Giese went 24-2 as a freshman in 1998-99. Pollack also teamed with Alexa Dragonette (right) to down Georgetown's No. 1 doubles team of Liddy Bartell and Adriann Gin.

Also posting wins for the Hens were Sari Shuster (18-7) at No. 3 singles, Dragonette at No. 4 singles, Brittany Barsky at No. 5 singles, Katie Miller at No. 6 singles, and Perlow and Shuster at No. 3 doubles.
