Wins At No. 1 Singles But Blue Hen Women's
Tennis Falls At Lehigh,

BETHLEHEM,
PA -- The University of Delaware men's and
women's tennis teams each fell at Lehigh
Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks
took the women's match, 5-2, and won the
men's match, 6-1.
Susan
Pollack led the Blue Hen women (7-1) by
defeating Gwen Dwyer 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1
singles, but Lehigh won the other five
singles matches as the Mountain Hawks
improved to 4-1 on the season. Alexis
Jacobi needed three sets to defeat
Delaware's Elizabeth Perlow 2-6, 6-3, 6-3
at No. 2, Starr Foster posted a 6-1, 6-2
win over Sari Schuster at No. 3, and Maria
Anorga topped Jamie deGraffenreid 6-1, 6-2
at No. 4.
Lindsay
Long defeated UD's Alexa Dragonette 6-4,
1-6, 6-3 at No. 5, while Cesca
Murasko-Blank needed a third-set
tiebreaker to hold off Brittany Barsky
6-3, 5-7 (10-8) at No. 6.
Delaware
did pick up the doubles point by winning
the No. 2 and No 3 matches. deGraffenreid
and Dragonette edged Dwyer and Ashley
Donohue 9-8 (7-5) at No. 2, while Barsky
and Katie Miller recorded an 8-6 victory
over Long and Anorga at No. 3. Jacob and
Foster posted an 8-6 win over Pollack and
Schuster at No. 1 for Lehigh.
The Blue
Hen men (3-1) dropped all six singles
matches but avoided the shutout by winning
the doubles point. Jesse Carl and Jason
Hanschmann defeated Ryan Lloyd and Andrew
Shapiro 8-4 at No. 2, while Philip Wayne
and Sammy Carl edged Brad Nelson and John
Nespoli 8-6 at No. 3.
In singles
action Ty Esler defeated John Tully 6-3,
3-6, 6-4 at No. 1 for Lehigh (2-5), while
Randall Smalley topped Adam Liebman 6-3,
7-6 (4) at No. 2. Ryan Lloyd bested Jesse
Carl 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3, Alfredo
Fernandez-Concha posted a 6-3, 6-0 victory
over Robert Wirth at No. 4, Nelson
defeated Hanschmann 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5, and
Nespoli recorded a 6-4, 6-2 win over
Jonathan Schwartz at No. 6.
