Women's Tennis Downs George Mason 5-2 in
CAA Opener

Dragonette each won in both singles and
doubles competition as the University of
Delaware women's tennis squad opened its
Colonial Athletic Association dual match
season with a 5-2 victory over George
Mason Friday morning at the Delaware Field
House Tennis Courts.
Delaware
swept all three doubles matches to pick up
the doubles point and won each of the
final four singles matches to post the
victory and improved to 10-1 (1-0 CAA).
The Blue Hens' 10 wins are the most for
the program since the 2000-01 squad went
11-8 in dual action. George Mason fell to
4-3 with the loss.
The Blue
Hens dominated the doubles action as Susan
Pollack and Sari Shuster teamed for an 8-6
win over Andreea Fusea and Maricel
Ballester at the No. 1 spot, Miller and
Barsky teamed for a 9-8 (7-4) win over
Jenn Dektas and Jamie Delorie at No. 2,
and Dragonette and freshman Julie Schiller
won 8-5 over Katie Sloper and Julie
Moscato at the No. 3 spot.
George
Mason captured the top two singles
competitions as Fusea downed reigning CAA
Player of the Week Pollack 3-6, 6-1, 6-0
at the top spot and Ballester posted a
6-1, 6-1 win over Perlow at No. 2. Pollack
had a three-match win streak snapped while
Perlow fell for just the third time in 18
singles matches this season.
But
Delaware won out the rest of the way as
Sari Shuster recorded a 4-6, 6-2 (10-7)
win over Dektas at No. 3, Dragonette was a
6-0, 6-0 victor over Delorie at No. 4,
Miller posted a 7-5, 6-3 win over Sloper
at No. 4, and Barsky was a 6-0, 6-1 winner
over Moscato at the No. 6 spot.
Delaware
will take part in its annual Spring Break
trip to Florida this week where the Hens
will take on Bethune-Cookman (March 28),
Webber (March 29), and Stetson (March 30).
