Women's Tennis Takes All Four Matches To
Win Towson Fall

-- The University of Delaware women's
tennis team posted 5-0 shutouts over
Loyola (MD), Georgetown "A", and Monmouth
while defeating Towson, 4-1, to go 4-0 and
win the Towson University Fall
Invitational on Sunday.
Georgetown
"B" finished second with a 3-0 record,
followed by the Hoyas' "A" team, which
went 2-1. The host Tigers came in fourth
with a 1-2 mark, followed by Loyola at 0-3
and Monmouth at 0-4.
The Blue
Hens, who were competing in their first
dual meet action of the season and are now
a perfect 4-0 on the year, were led by
freshman Susan Pollack (Wyomissing, PA),
who won all four of her matches at No. 1
singles. Pollack defeated Loyola's Jessica
Liberatore 6-0, 6-2, Georgetown's Adriann
Gin 6-3, 6-2, Monmouth's Kelly Phoelows
6-0, 6-0, and Towson's Pamela Zeger 6-0,
6-0 to run her record to 8-0 this
fall.
Sophomore
Sari Shuster (Pleasantville, NY/Byram) was
just as successful at No. 2 singles, as
she also won all four of her matches while
not dropping a set. Shuster topped Meagan
McKenna of Loyola 6-2, 6-1, Kristin Dew of
Georgetown 6-2, 6-2, Ashleigh Johnson of
Monmouth 6-0, 6-0, and Kelly Parsons of
Towson 6-0, 6-3 to improve to 7-1 this
season.
Also going
undefeated on the day was sophomore
Elizabeth Perlow (Sarasota,
FL/Lawrence-NY), who did not lose a set at
No. 3 singles to improve to a perfect 8-0
this year. Perlow defeated Christi Lazar
of Loyola 6-2, 6-0, Eileen Boyle of
Georgetown 6-2, 6-2, Kelly Fargmann of
Monmouth 6-0, 6-1, and Morgan Suger-Butter
of Towson 6-4, 6-0.
Sophomore
Jamie deGraffenreid (Millersville,
MD/Saddlebrook Prep) defeated Loyola's
Claire Najour 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles to
run her record to 5-0 this season, while
junior Marissa Singer (Bayonne,
NY/Bayonne/U. of Tampa) posted a 6-2, 6-0
win over Georgetown's Michelle DiCocco and
a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Monmouth's Kelly
Shedelhower to improve to 4-1. Freshman
Brittany Barsky (Rockville, MD) fell to
Towson's Audrey Damrongski 6-3, 6-2 in her
ony singles action of the day, falling to
3-2 on the year.
In doubles
action, deGraffenreid and freshman Alexa
Dragonette (Wyomissing, PA) defeated Liora
Gelblum and Madeleine Long of Georgetown
6-4, 6-2 and Ashley Peitrky and Alecia
White of Towson 6-1, 6-0 to run their
record to a perfect 5-0 this
season.
Dragonette
also teamed with Barsky to down Cuti and
LaRoccos of Loyola 6-0, 6-2 in the pair's
first doubles action, while Barsky and
junior Katie Miller (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus),
also competing for the first time
together, topped Laruren Harms of Krista
McCormick of Monmouth 6-0, 6-1. All
doubles matches were at the No. 1
slot.
The Blue
Hens return to action on Tuesday,
September 28 when Delaware hosts St.
Joseph's at 3 p.m.
