UNC Wilmington Posts 6-1 Win Over Delaware In Women's Tennis

FAIRFAX, VA -- TheThe UNC Wilmington men's tennis team posted a 4-3 win over the University of Delaware while the Seahawk women recorded a 6-1 victory over the Blue Hens in a pair of Colonial Athletic Association matches Friday on the campus of George Mason University.

The UNC Wilmington men, who improved to 6-8 overall and 2-0 in the league, won four singles points to take the close victory. Josh Ditman posted a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 win over Taylor Vaughn at No. 3 for Delaware, which fell to 9-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference. Jason Hanschmann was the other singles winner for the Blue Hens, as he edged Aaron Rassell 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 at No. 6 to improve to a team-best 15-5 this season.

Caio Piacentini defeated John Tully 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 for the Seahawks, while Alvaro Penteado topped Adam Liebman 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2. Rahul Rajkhewa topped Jesse Carl 6-7 (4), 7-6 (5), 6-3 at No. 4, and Grant Holland defeated Robert Wirth 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5.

Jesse Carl and Hanschmann defeated Rajkhewa and Holland 8-6 at No. 2 doubles, while Philip Wayne and Sammy Carl posted an 8-3 win over Seth Johnson and Robbie Paul at No. 3 to win their 11th straight match and improve to 13-1 this year. Piacentini and Penteado defeated Tullly and Wirth 8-5 at No. 1 doubles for UNC Wilmington.

The Seahawk women took all six singles points as they improved to 10-6 overall and 2-0 in the CAA. The Delaware women, who fell to 12-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play, picked up the doubles point as Susan Pollack and Alexa Dragonette defeated Lindsey Hess and Sallie Kiser 8-4 at No. 1 while Elizabeth Perlow and Sari Shuster edged Lauren Filliettaz and Katie Carlson 8-6 at No. 3.

Hess defeated Pollack 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Kiser topped Perlow 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2, and Molly Molony edged Shuster 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 for UNC Wilmington. Kristin Mears defeated Dragonette 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4, Cassie Martin posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Brittany Barsky at No. 5, and Cary Wyeth topped Katie Miller 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6.
