Women's Tennis Off to Best Start in Five
Seasons After 5-2 Win over

-- The University of Delaware women's
tennis team is off to its best start in
five seasons after the Blue Hens posted a
5-2 non-league victory over Villanova
Tuesday afternoon at the Delaware Field
House Tennis Courts.
The Blue
Hens, whose 6-0 start is the best since
the 1999-200 squad started off 6-0 on the
way to a 15-5 finish, won four of the six
singles matches and won two out of three
doubles competitions to post the victory.
The Hens, who downed the Wildcats for the
first time since the 1999-2000 season,
will continue action Oct. 9 when they host
LaSalle.
Freshman
Susan Pollack posted a 6-0, 0-6, 6-4 win
over Villanova's Candice Carlin at No. 1,
sophomore Liz Perlow won by default over
Colleen Speaker at the No. 2 spot,
sophomore Sari Shuster was a 7-5, 6-1
winner over Leighann Reilly at No. 3, and
sophomore Marissa Singer was a 6-0, 6-1
victor over Karyn Coppeilliney at No. 6 to
lead the Blue Hens in singles
play.
Pollack, a
freshman from Wyomissing, PA (Wyomissing
HS), and Perlow, a sophomore from
Sarasota, FL (Lawrence, NY HS), both
remained unbeaten on the season at 10-0.
The 10 consecutive wins is the longest
streak by a Delaware singles player since
Danielle Wall won 13 straight in 2000-01.
Shuster (Byram Hills/Pleasantville, NY)
improved to 9-1 with her win for Delaware
while Singer upper her singles slate to
5-1.
Delaware
won two doubles matches on the day as
Pollack and Shuster combined for an 8-1
win over Carlin and Reilly at the No. 1
spot and Jamie deGraffenreid and Julie
Schiller were 9-8 (7-5) winners over
Morgan Flezzani and Katie Slezzier at No.
3.
