Delaware Women's Tennis Defeats Georgetown, 6-1

WASHINGTON, DC -- The University of Delaware women’s tennis team posted a 6-1 victory at Georgetown while the Blue Hen men fell to the Hoyas, 4-3, Tuesday afternoon.

The Delaware women won their third straight match, all by identical 6-1 scores, to improve to 7-6 on the season, while Georgetown dropped to 3-9 this year. Susan Pollack (right) defeated Liz Winokur 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for the Blue Hens, while Liz Perlow downed Eileen Boyle 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3. Sari Shuster needed three sets to edge Taylor Martin 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 4, Alexa Dragonette posted a 7-6 (1), 6-0 victory over Charlotte Guy at No. 5, and Brittany Barsky recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win over Nora Gardner at No. 6 for Delaware.

Courtney Olsen was the lone winner for the Hoyas, as she defeated Amanda Campbell 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Pollack and Campbell posted an 8-2 win over Stephanie Cohen and Winokur at No. 1 doubles as they improved to 19-5 and moved within one victory of the school’s single-season doubles wins list. Dragonette and Barsky notched an 8-3 victory over Olsen and Guy at No. 2, while Julie Schiller and Shuster completed the doubles sweep for the Blue Hens as they defeated Boyle and Lauren Bakios, 8-2, at No. 3.

The Delaware men had their two-match winning streak snapped as they fell to 6-6 on the year, while the Hoyas improved to 6-10 this season. Nolan Greenberg defeated Theodore Tywant 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles for the Blue Hens, while Jon Schwartz downed Bert Baggio 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5.

Eric Conrad topped Jesse Carl 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles for Georgetown, while Etienne Paris needed three sets to edge Adam Liebman 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 3. Kevin Killeavy defeated Josh Ditman 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4, while Kenneth Wong downed Philip Wayne 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6.

Carl and Greenberg defeated Kevin Walsh and Conrad, 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Jason Hanschmann and Wayne topped Tywant and Paris, 8-5, at No. 2. Schwartz and Josh Levine edged Wong and Andrew Clayton, 9-8 (2) at No. 3 as Delaware took the doubles point.

Both Blue Hens teams return to the courts on Wednesday when Delaware hosts Hofstra at 2 p.m.
