University of Delaware Women's Tennis Team Posts 6-1 Win Over George Mason

FAIRFAX, VA -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s tennis teams each posted a 6-1 victory over George Mason in Colonial Athletic Association action Sunday afternoon.

The Delaware men won their second straight match to improve to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference, while the Patriots fell to 4-8 overall and 1-3 in league play. Nolan Greenberg posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Farshad Garakani at No. 2 singles for the Blue Hens, while Adam Liebman recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Jay Friedman at No. 3.

Josh Ditman defeated Jordan Lipstock 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 for Delaware, while Jonathan Schwartz notched a 6-1, 6-3 win over Daniel Scheinder at No. 5 and Josh Levine posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Eric Vogel at No. 6. Stephan Dufils was the only singles winner for George Mason as he edged Jesse Carl 3-6, 7-6 (3), 10-8 at No. 1.

Carl and Greenberg defeated Dufils and Lipstock 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Jason Hanschmann and Philip Wayne recorded an 8-6 win over Garakani and Scheinder at No. 2. Schwartz and Levine notched a 9-7 victory over Vogel and Friedman at No. 3 to complete the doubles sweep for the Blue Hens.

The Delaware women also won their second straight contest as they improved to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in conference action, while the Patriots dropped to 10-9 overall and 1-4 in the league.

Susan Pollack defeated Andreea Fusea 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, while Liz Perlow posted a 7-6 (5), 6-0 win over Jenn Dektas at No. 3. Sari Shuster (above) recorded a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Julia Moscato at No. 4 as she won her 44th career match to move into a tie for eighth place on the UD career singles wins list.

Alexa Dragonette defeated Alicia Van Zandt 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 for the Blue Hens, while Brittany Barsky improved to 14-3 on the year with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Claudia Antezano at No. 6. Maricel Ballester topped Amanda Campbell 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles for George Mason.

Pollack and Campbell won by default over Fusea and Ballester at No. 1 doubles as the duo improved to 18-5 and moved within two victories of the school’s single-season doubles wins record. Dektas and Moscato posted an 8-4 win over Dragonette and Barsky at No. 2 for the Patriots, but Shuster and Julie Schiller topped Van Zandt and Wooten 8-1 at No. 3 for Delaware as the Blue Hens picked up the doubles point.

Both Delaware teams are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Georgetown for 2 p.m. matches with the Hoyas.
