NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- Amanda Campbell and Susan Pollack captured the women’s A doubles title as the University of Delaware women’s tennis team competed in the Hampton Roads Collegiate Tennis Invitational of Newport News Friday through Sunday.

Campbell and Pollack defeated Sandra Simunic and Anastasia Skavronskaia of George Washington, 6-1, in the round of 16 and posted a 7-5 victory over Mariel Ballester and Andrea Fusea of George Mason in the quarterfinals of the draw. They then topped Jessica Brouwer and Bethan James of Virginia Tech, 8-3, in the semifinals before defeating Lauren Cash and Barbara Zidek of William & Mary, 8-2, in the finals.

Julie Schiller and Sari Shuster dropped a 6-3 decision to Kristy Borza and Annie Davies of Pittsburgh in the quarterfinals of the women’s B-1 doubles draw.

Brittany Barsky and Alexa Dragonette defeated Caroline Downs and Camila Noldin of Radford, 7-6 (4), in the quarterfinals of the women’s B-2 doubles draw, and recorded an 8-3 win over Kate Miglin and Rebecca Morse-Karzen of Mary Washington in the semifinals before falling to Steph Cohen and Andriann Gin of Georgetown, 8-4, in the finals.

Schiller (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) defeated Kelsey Mansmann of Mary Washington 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 in the round of 32 of the women’s D-2 singles draw, topped Jenna Suffoletto of Pittsburgh 6-3, 7-6 in the round of 16, and defeated Antonietta Iosue of Radford 7-5, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. She then defeated Lauaren Bakios of Georgetown 6-1, 7-6 (1) in the semifinals before falling to Wei Ming Leong of Syracuse 6-2, 6-1 in the finals. Abbie Pyeritz (Radnor, PA/Episcopal Academy) defeated Lenise Carnage of Norfolk State 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 16 in the draw but fell to Annie Day of James Madison 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 in the quarterfinals.

Campbell (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) defeated Fiorela Valdivia of Norfolk State 6-4, 7-5 in the round of the 32 in the women’s A singles draw and recorded a 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 win over Kristin Nordstrom of James Madison in the round of 16 before falling to Victoria Konstantinova of Virginia Commonwealth 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals. Pollack (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing Area) defeated Mary Napier of James Madison 6-0, 6-1 in the round of 32 in the draw and posted a 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 victory over Vera Petrashevich of Virginia Commonwealth in the round of 16 before dropping a 7-5, 7-5 decision to Victoria Vaynberg of Syracuse in the quarterfinals.

Shuster (Pleasantville, NY/Byram Hills) defeated Laura Marin of Howard 7-6, 0-6, 1-0 in the round of 16 in the women’s B-1 singles draw before she fell to Carmelia Carapcea of UMBC 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

Liz Perlow (Sarasota, FL/Lawrence-KY) dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision to Taylor Martin of Georgetown in the women’s B-2 singles round of 16 but rebounded to defeat Annie Davies of Pittsburgh, 8-4, in the consolation bracket’s quarerfinals. The semifinals and finals were not played.

Dragonette (Wyomissing, PA/Wilson) lost to Katie Bramante of Syracuse 6-1, 6-3 in the round of 32 in the women’s C-1 singles draw and fell to Stacy Kent of Hofstra in the consolation bracket’s round of 32 when she could not compete due to injury.

Barsky (Rockville, MD/Rockville) posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Merrisa Hollinger of American in the round of 16 in the women’s C-2 singles draw but fell to Joy Adewumi of UMBC 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.

Kate Iannelli (Wilmington, DE/Ursuline Academy) fell to Maria Vasilyeva 6-1, 6-0 in the round of 16 in the women’s D-1 singles draw, but rebounded to post an 8-3 victory over Alicia Raymond of Longwood in the consolation bracket’s round of 16 and defeat Jillian Schalk of Hofstra, 8-2, in the quarterfinals. The semifinals and finals were not played.

The Blue Hens return to action on October 18 when Delaware hosts Temple at 2:30 p.m.
