PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The University of Delaware women’s tennis team won its first dual meet of the 2005 fall season by shutting out Saint Joseph’s, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Susan Pollack (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing Area) shut out Nicole Morrison 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for the Blue Hens, while freshman Amanda Campbell (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Erika Guers at No. 2 singles. Junior Liz Perlow (Sarasota, FL/Lawrence-NY) recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jesica Swanderski at No. 3 singles, while junior Sari Shuster (Pleasantville, NY/Byram Hills) was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Gina DiGiacomo at No. 4.

Sophomore Brittany Barsky (Rockville, MD/Rockville) posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Krysta Contino at No. 5, while freshman Katie Iannelli (Wilmington, DE/Ursuline Academy) defeated Elisa Van Meter 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

Pollack and Campbell shut out Morrison and Swanderski 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, while Shuster and sophomore Alexa Dragonette (Wyomissing, PA/Wilson) recorded an 8-6 victory over DiGiacomo and Marisa Donelson at No. 2. Perlow and Barsky completed the shutout by posting an 8-5 win over Guers and Cotino at No. 3 doubles.

The Blue Hens are now 1-0 in dual meet action this fall, while the Hawks drop to 0-1.

Delaware returns to the courts on Sunday, September 25 when the Blue Hens travel to Villanova for a 1 p.m. match with the Wildcats.
