VILLANOVA, PA -- The University of Delaware men’s tennis team posted a 6-1 victory over the University of Villanova while the Blue Hen women defeated the Wildcats, 4-3, Sunday afternoon.

Senior Jesse Carl (Northbrook, IL/Glenbrook North) defeated Dimitri Chimerakis 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles for the Delaware men (1-0), while senior Adam Liebman (Westport, CT/Staples) improved to 4-0 on the season with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over Brian Maher at No. 3.

Sophomore Jason Hanschmann (Palatine, IL/Palatine) edged John Borden 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (6) at No. 4 singles, while freshman Nolan Greenberg (Glendale, WI/Nicolet) also improved to 4-0 by recording a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5 over Sumanth Chitajou. Freshman Josh Levine (Wappingers Falls, NY) moved to 4-0 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Charlie Farmer at No. 6, while Scott Farendorf posted the Wildcats’ lone victory with a 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 triumph over Blue Hen senior Josh Ditman (Cheshire, CT/Chesire) at No. 2.

Carl and Hanschmann defeated Chimerackis 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Ditman and Levine recorded an 8-5 victory over Farendorf and Farmer at No. 2. Greenberg and senior Philip Wayne improved to 4-0 on the season by posting an 8-4 win over Borden and Chitajou at No. 5 for the Blue Hens.

Sophomore Susan Pollack (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing Area) improved to 5-0 on the year with a 7-6 (6), 6-4 win over Candice Carlin at No. 1 singles for the Delaware women (2-0), while freshman Amanda Campbell (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) improved to 6-0 by posting a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Leigh Ann Reilly at No. 2. Sophomore Brittany Barsky (Rockville, MD/Rockville) was the other singles winner for the Blue Hens, as she recorded a 6-4, 6-1 win over Melissa Reed at No. 5 to improve her record to 6-0 on the season.

Jackie Williamson defeated junior Liz Perlow (Sarasota, FL/Lawrence-NY) 7-6 (4), 6-2 at No. 3 singles for Villanova, while Dani Phillis posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over junior Sari Shuster (Pleasantville, NY/Byram Hills) at No. 4 and Lindsey Lostretto topped freshman Katie Iannelli (Wilmington, DE/Ursuline Academy) 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.

Pollack and Campbell ran their doubles record to 6-0 with an 8-2 victory over Carlin and Williamson at No. 1, while sophomore Alexa Dragonette (Wyomissing, PA/Wilson) and Barsky posted an 8-5 win over Ashley Reed and Melissa Reed at No. 2. Perlow and Shuster made it a doubles sweep for the Blue Hens with an 8-6 victory over Reilly and Phillis at No. 3.

The Blue Hen men return to action on Thursday with a 3:30 p.m. match at La Salle, while both teams will host Mount St. Mary’s Sunday at 1 p.m.
