DAYTONA BEACH, FL -- The University of Delaware men’s tennis team defeated Bethune-Cookman, 5-2, while the Blue Hen women fell to the Wildcats, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon.

The Delaware men’s team improved to 3-6 this season and won its second straight match as the Blue Hens improved to 4-0 all-time against Bethune-Cookman (8-11). Matthew Liebman defeated Jerome Ward 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles for Delaware, while Sam Barrerposted a 7-6 (5), 6-2 victory over Stefan James at No. 4. Jonathan Schwartz recorded a 6-3, 6-4 win over Yannick Jackson at No. 5 for the Blue Hens, while Camilo Perez was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Luiz Gomes at No. 6.

Thabani Sithole defeated Austin Longacre 7-6 (2), 6-3 at No. 1 for the Wildcats, while Christian Cruz topped Nolan Greenberg 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2. Delaware took the doubles point as Longacre and Andrew Blumberg defeated James and Jackson, 8-3, at No. 2 while Barrer and Perez posted an 8-2 victory over Ward and Gomes at No. 3. Sithole and Cruz edged Greenberg and Jason Hanschmann, 8-4, at No. 1 for Bethune-Cookman.

The Blue Hen women fell to 4-6 on the year and had their three-match winning streak snapped as they fell to 0-3 all-time against the Wildcats, who improved to 17-2 while winning thieir seventh consecutive match.

Brittany Barsky (right) was the lone winner for Delaware, as she posted a 1-6, 7-6 (7), 12-10 win over Valerie Kendrick at No. 5 singles. Olga Ruislova defeated Amanda Campbell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Kiara Powell recorded a 1-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory over Elena Berry at No. 2. Lucia Polakova defeated Liz Perlow 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 for the Wildcats, while Moniak Musilova topped Alexa Dragonette 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 and Jeneice Ward edged Laura Honig 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.

Ruislova and Powell defeated Campbell and Berry, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles, while Polakova and Kendrick edged Dragonette and Julie Schiller, 8-3, at No. 2. Musilova and Ward completed the doubles sweep for Bethune-Cookman by posting an 8-2 victory over Perlow and Barsky at No. 3.

The Delaware women’s team travels to Stetson Wednesday at 2 p.m., while the Blue Hen men will take on the Hatters at 4 p.m.
