Delaware Men’s and Women’s Tennis Teams Post 6-1 Victories Over Drexel

NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s tennis teams each posted 6-1 victories over Drexel in Colonial Athletic Association tennis matches Monday afternoon at the Delaware Field House Tennis Courts. Both the Blue Hen men and women have each won three-straight matches.

The Delaware men (6-7, 2-1), who have won five of their last six matches, defeated Drexel for the 46th time in their last 47 matches. The Drexel men had a three- match winning steak come to an end while falling to 6-8 on the year.

The Dragons got their lone win from Omar Laalej who won at No. 1 singles and extended his singles winning streak to four matches by downing Austin Longacre. Delaware picked up singles wins from Nolan Greenberg, Matt Leibman, Sam Barrer, Jon Schwartz and Camilo Perez.

In doubles action, Delaware won two of three matches as Longacre and Andrew Blumberg won their third straight match by downing Harrison Clare and Carlo Panquilinan at No. 2 and Perez and Barrer, the reigning CAA Doubles Team of the Week, won their sixth straight match as a pair by defeating Ben Trabin and Ayushya Wadhwan at No. 3. Drexel picked up its only win at No. 1 where Laalej and Joe Koebele beat Greenberg and Jason Hanschmann.

The Blue Hen women improve to 7-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The Dragons had a two-match conference winning streak snapped and fall to 4-7 on the season.

Gabriela Marginean, the CAA women’s basketball Rookie of the Year, posted Drexel’s only singles win as she extended her winning-streak to four matches by giving Elena Berry her first loss of the season at the No. 1 singles spot.

Delaware picked up singles victories from Amanda Campbell, Liz Perlow, Alexa Dragonette, Brittany Barskey, and Laura Honig (at right). In the doubles, Drexel’s Marginean and Emily Lewis defeated Berry and Campbell at No. 1. Dragonette and Barsky picked up their fifth straight win as a duo by defeating Mellissa Lewis and Lara Hamad at No. 2, while Perlow and Julie Schillier defeated Hana Stecovca and Ashley Doriss.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will be back in action Tuesday when they host UMBC at 2 p.m. at the Delaware Field House Tennis Courts.
