WASHINGTON, DC -- The University of Delaware women’s tennis team picked up its second straight win Saturday afternoon as the Blue Hens downed George Washington, 4-3. Delaware won three of the six singles matches and swept the doubles to claim the victory.

The Blue Hens improved to 3-5 on the season and picked up consecutive victories for the first time since April, 2006.

Sophomore Amanda Campbell fell at No. 1 singles to Kendall Swenson 6-1, 7-5 and senior Liz Perlow dropped her No. 2 singles match to the Colonial’s Madhuri Jha 7-5, 6-2. However, the Hens picked up three singles wins from the middle of their line-up as Elena Berry downed Mara Frisch 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3, Alexa Dragonette (at right) beat Tracy Stecko 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) in a pivotal match at No. 4, and Brittany Barsky defeated Verena Knoedler 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 at No. 5. Rachael Honig downed freshman Kristen Mueller at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-0.

In doubles play, Delaware swept all three matches. Campbell and Berry teamed up to down Swenson and Knoedler 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, Dragonette and junior Julie Schiller defeated Jah and Frish at No. 2, and in a battle of sisters, Barsky and Laura Honig won a thrilling match over Stecko and Rachael Honig 8-7 (7-2).

George Washington falls to 2-4 on the season.

Delaware will continue action March 23 at the Florida Institute of Technology.
