EASTON, PA -- The University of Delaware women’s tennis team swept all six singles matches and broke a four-match losing streak by defeating Lafayette, 7-0, Monday afternoon.
The Blue Hens improve to 5-9 on the season after picking up the non-league win, while the Leopards, who have dropped four of their last five matches, fall to 6-6.
Delaware won all six singles matches including a 6-3, 6-3 victory from freshman Elena Berry who moves to 2-0 on the season at No. 1 singles.
In other singles action, Amanda Cambell defeated Julia Strang 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2, while Liz Perlow (at right) topped Ansley Scudder 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3. Alexa Dragonette downed Sarah Sykes 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 and Brittany Barsky posted her 45th career singles win over Nancy Parker 6-0, 6-1. Laura Honig rounded out the singles sweep by posting a 6-1, 7-6 (4) win over Jacqui Bonder at No 6.
In doubles action, Berry and Campbell teamed up to down Baily and Scudder 8-2 at No. 1, while Lafayette picked up their lone win of the day at No. 2 doubles, where Strang and Sykes defeated Dragonette and Julie Schiller 8-4. Perlow and Barsky defeated Parker and Bonder 8-4 at No. 3 to earn the Blue Hens the doubles point.
Delaware returns to action Sunday when the Hens host James Madison at 9 a.m. at the Delaware Field House tennis courts.
