COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Susan Pollack won her Flight A singles match and captured a doubles match to set a new school record for career doubles wins to lead the University of Delaware women’s tennis team in first day action at the University of Maryland Invitational Friday afternoon.

Pollack (at right), a senior from Wyomissing, PA (Wyomissing Area HS), defeated Maryland’s Julia Huschke 6-0, 7-6 (7-0) in her first round match at the Flight A spot and then teamed with Courtney Fenimore to post a first round Flight A Doubles match win over Maggie MacKeever and Oksana Krutiyenko of Maryland.

Pollack improved to 4-1 on the season at singles and won her 53rd career singles match to tie Elly Giese (1998-02) for sixth place all-time at Delaware and became the Blue Hens’ all-time career doubles win leader with 57, breaking the mark of 56 held by Rebecca Fearins (1993-98) and Karen Greenstein (1996-2000).

The second round of the tournament will continue Saturday with the final round set for Sunday afternoon.

Delaware posted just one other victory on Friday as Elena Berry defeated Lauren Wilson 6-4, 6-2 at Flight B doubles.

Also for the Hens, Fenimore fell to Megan Martzolf of Miami (OH) 6-0, 6-0 at Flight A singles, Alexa Dragonette fell to Niki Flach of Army 6-1, 6-1 at Flight B singles, Ivana Petrich was a 6-0, 6-1 loser to Mary Claire Slade of Auburn at Flight C singles, Brittany Barsky fell to Sofia Ayala of Missouri at Flight C singles, and Kristen Mueller dropped a 6-4, 6-2 verdict to Erika Shortridge of Air Force.

Pollack and Fenimore were the only UD doubles team to post a victory Friday as the Hens went 1-6 in seven matches.
