NORFOLK, VA -- Blue Hen sophomore Andrew Blumberg (right) won the Flight D singles title Sunday afternoon on the final day of the 28-team Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational at Old Dominion, where the Blue Hen men and women combined to go 42-23 overall and qualified nine entrants for semifinal play.

Blumberg, who hadn't played a singles match all season prior to this weekend, waltzed past Villanova's John Drosick, 6-2, 6-1, in the 9 a.m. championship match. He lost just nine games in his four Flight D matches and didn't surrender a single set on the way to the crown.

In the Flight D doubles final, freshman Chris Hincker and junior Amit Kapur lost a tight, 8-6 affair to Owen Bullard and Joe Wiggins of Navy.

In women's action, UNC-Wilmington's Lindsay Leblang and Melissa Wolf outlasted UD's Elena Berry and Ivana Petrich, 8-5, in the Flight C1 final.

UNC-Wilmington, Temple, and William & Mary won three women's titles each, while George Washington and Navy took home three trophies apiece on the men's side.

The tournament drew 28 teams, including nine CAA squads and other top teams from the Big East and Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Blue Hen men close out their fall season Oct. 18-22 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals, hosted by Princeton. The women, meanwhile, return to Old Dominion for the ITA Regionals from Oct. 19-23.
