NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware women's tennis team began its 2007 fall campaign in impressive fashion Friday, as six Blue Hen singles players and two doubles teams won two matches apiece on the first day of the three-team UD Women's Tennis Trifecta.

With no team scoring, the tournament features four singles flights and two doubles flights. Schools are allotted two entries apiece in each flight, and the round-robin format allows each player or team to play everyone else in their flight - except their teammate.

In Flight A singles, senior Susan Pollack (right) defeated Towson's Caitlin White, 7-5, 6-4, recording her 50th career singles win. But Pollock, the Hens' top singles player for the last three years, was later beaten by Jackie Shtemberg of TCNJ, 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Courtney Fenimore picked up her first career win with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Shtemberg. She remained unbeaten with a second-round victory over Towson's Evelyn Izaquirre.

Sophomore Elena Berry picked up two wins in Flight B singles, besting Towson's Cassandra Ng and TCNJ's Christina Contrafatto with ease. Fellow sophomore Amanda Campbell didn't fare quite as well against Contrafatto, falling 6-3, 3-6, 7-10 in a 10-point tiebreaker.

Senior Alexa Dragonette and freshman Ivana Petrich combined to go 4-0 for the Hens in Flight C singles. Dragonette started her day with a 6-1, 6-3 drubbing of Towson's Katie Young, and she followed it with an even more lopsided defeat of TCNJ's Lindsay Katzel. Petrich began her Blue Hen career in style, toppling Katzel and Ashley Peretz of Towson without much trouble.

Senior Brittany Barsky picked up career wins 51 and 52 in Flight D singles, surrendering only five total games in wins over TCNJ's Lucy DiPastina and Natalie Walten of Towson. Barsky moved into seventh all-time on the UD wins list. Sophomore Kristen Mueller followed suit, ousting DiPastina and Towson's Trish Young.

Pollack and Fenimore rolled to 8-5 wins over the Towson and TCNJ representatives in Flight A doubles. Pollack now has 54 doubles victories to her credit, second-most in school history. Campbell and Dragonette, meanwhile, dropped their opener to TCNJ's top pair before rebounding with an 8-2 win over a Tiger twosome.

Berry and Petrich won both their matches in the other doubles flight, while Barsky and sophomore Laura Honig fell 8-6 to TCNJ before flipping the script against Towson.

The tourney continues on Sunday at the Delaware Field House (Flight A doubles, Flight B doubles, Flight A singles, Flight B singles) and Carpenter Sports Building (Flight C singles, Flight D singles) courts.
