HARRISONBURG, VA -- Standout senior Susan Pollack recorded an easy win at first singles to lead the University of Delaware women's tennis team to a 4-2 victory over UNC Wilmington on Friday, the first day of the Colonial Athletic Association round-robin weekend at James Madison University.

The teams played singles matches only due to weather concerns.

The Blue Hens (8-1, 3-0 Colonial Athletic Association) notched their first-ever win over the Seahawks after dropping the previous five meetings. UD is off to its best start since the 2004-05 campaign, when the Hens won 10 of their first 11 matches en route to a 15-8 record.

Pollack (at right) raced past UNCW's Priscilla Roberts for a 6-1, 6-3 win at first singles, and Fenimore held off Kayla Schwenk by a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 score at No. 2. Sophomore Elena Berry tallied her seventh consecutive singles victory with a hard-fought 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-5 triumph over the Seahawks' Lindsay Leblang in third-singles action, while junior No. 4 Amanda Campbell fell to Laura Isenhour 6-0, 6-1.

Senior Alexa Dragonette dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision to UNCW's Chelsea Kahle at fifth singles, but freshman Ivana Petrich clinched the Hens' victory with a 7-5, 6-2 triumph over Hartley Collins at the No. 6 spot.

Delaware returns to the court on Saturday morning, when the Hens face host James Madison on the second day of CAA round-robin weekend.
