NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware women's tennis team rolled to its second straight shutout win Saturday afternoon at the Delaware Field House Tennis Courts, defeating Villanova, 7-0.
Senior standout Susan Pollack got the Hens off in the right direction at first singles, as she scored a 3-6, 5-3 win after the Wildcats' Jaclyn Williamson retired in the third set. Pollack got her 55th career singles win to move into a tie for sixth on Delaware's all-time list. Freshman Courtney Fenimore kept up the momentum at No. 2, topping Carla Erskine by a 6-1, 6-3 score.
Sophomore Elena Berry, senior Alexa Dragonette, and freshman Ivana Petrich all cruised by their 'Nova opponents without surrendering a single set, while sophomore Kristen Mueller fought hard for a 6-4, 3-6, 12-10 triumph over Ashley Reed at sixth singles, outlasting Reed in a long third-set tiebreak.
Pollack notched her 59th career doubles win - three more than any other player in UD history - when she teamed with Fenimore to take down Williamson and Reed, 8-5, at No. 1. Meanwhile, Dragonette and junior Amanda Campbell (right) routed Erskine and Daniella Phillis by an 8-2 tally at second doubles. Berry and Petrich preserved the Hens' perfection with an 8-5 win at No. 3.
The Hens travel to Old Dominion Oct. 12-14 for the Hampton Roads Invitational .
