NORFOLK, Va. -- The University of Delaware women’s tennis team shut out No. 11-seeded George Mason on Thursday afternoon, 4-0 in Colonial Athletic Association Tennis Championship Round 1 action. Because of windy conditions, the match was played indoors, and once the Blue Hens won four singles matches, play was stopped.

Picking up wins for Delaware were junior Elena Berry, sophomore Megan Doran, sophomore Ivana Petrich (at right) and senior Amanda Campbell. Berry won at No. 1 singles over Lindsay Gray, 6-4, 6-3. Doran defeated Brooke Blackwell 6-1, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Petrich defeated Alicia Van Zandt, 6-1, 6-0. With the win, Petrich tied Elly Giese’s (1998-99) record of 24 singles wins in a season. Amanda Campbell’s 6-0, 6-1 win over Meredith Cutchin at No. 5 singles sealed the victory for Delaware.

Freshman Jo Jo Gruber was tied 4-4 in the first game of her No. 4 singles match with Laura-Marie Blisk before the match was called off, and sophomore Samantha Carnall had won her first game, 6-0 before it also got called off.
