DOVER, Del. - The University of Delaware women’s tennis team won four out of six doubles matches and all three of the completed singles matches against Delaware State on Friday afternoon at the Delaware Field House and Carpenter Sports Building courts before play was stopped due to rain.
Junior Elena Berry, sophomore Megan Doran and sophomore Kristen Mueller (at right) won their singles matches before the rain came. Freshman Lauren Gruber, sophomore Ivana Petrich, senior Amanda Campbell and freshman Samantha Carnall all had their singles matches delayed because of the rain.
The unfinished singles matches will resume on Sunday morning, and then the two teams will bypass round two and begin round three followed by the final round.
In doubles action, Berry and Gruber won both of their matches, and teams Petrich and Carnall and Doran and Campbell each won one of two matches for the Blue Hens.
Petrich and Carnall and Doran and Campbell both lost when they ran into Delaware State’s No. 1 doubles team of Andrade and Balakhonova. Delaware’s No. 1 doubles team of Berry and Gruber faces Andrade and Balakhonova on Sunday.
