WASHINGTON, D.C. - The University of Delaware women’s tennis team took four out of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches as the Blue Hens improved to 6-0 for the season with a 5-2 victory over George Washington.
Junior Elena Berry and sophomore Megan Doran fell at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but the Blue Hens came back to take the last four singles matches.
At No. 3 singles, the sophomore from Canada Ivana Petrich improved to 11-0 with a 6-1, 7-6, 7-4 decision over Jennifer Hirsh. Petrich is 16-2 for the season and 37-5 for her career. Freshman Jo Jo Gruber would win her second straight match at No. 4 singles, defeating Zoe Krohn 6-3, 6-4.
Senior Amanda Campbell (at right) and freshman Samantha Carnall won the last two singles matches for UD at No. 5 and No. 6 to close out singles play. They both improved to 6-0 in their respective singles rankings for the season. Campbell is 14-3 for the season and Carnall is 12-3.
The Blue Hen pairs of Berry and Gruber and Doran and Campbell would win at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to earn Delaware the point for doubles competition to close out the match. Berry and Gruber were down 4-7 before coming from behind to win the match 9-7. Campbell, with her and Doran’s win today at No. 3 doubles, moved within two individual doubles wins of tying current Assistant Tennis Coach Susan Pollack for the most career wins in UD history.
