HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The University of Delaware men’s and women’s tennis teams both defeated Colonial Athletic Association rival Hofstra in their conference openers on Friday afternoon at the Hofstra University Outdoor Tennis Center. The men improve to 7-2 for the 2008-09 season, and the women stay unbeaten for the season at 8-0. The women’s 8-0 record is the best start to a season since the 1997 women’s team started 17-0.

In men’s action, Delaware took two out of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The Blue Hen's No. 1 tandem of Austin Longacre and Nolan Greenberg defeated Tytus Stempniewicz and Stian Tvedt 8-3. Delaware's No. 3 pair of Andre Vorobyov and Camilo Perez defeated Alex Hosner and Eric Gladstone, 8-2.

In singles action, Delaware won four of the six matches. As a team, they are 90-36 in singles play on the year.

Longacre defeated Nenad Radakovic 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Longacre, who set the school record in 2007-08 for singles wins in a season with 22, is now 16-4 in 2008-09. His 48 career wins move him into a tie for ninth place on the career singles wins list with Jeff Harrison (1989-93).
